“Okstind”, an exquisite badass

When Helgeland Oppdrettservice was to expand the fleet, the choice fell on Moen Marin.

The service supplier is owned by Kvarøy Fiskeoppdrett, located on the island of Indre Kvarøy in Lurøy Municipality. Since 1976, as one of the pioneering aquaculture companies in Northern Norway, the family business has produced sustainable salmon of high quality from the coast of Helgeland.

The brand-new vessel “Okstind” is leased through our financing partner Moen Ship Management. This is the third delivery from Moen Marin to Kvarøy Fiskeoppdrett, and the second service vessel to Helgeland Oppdrettservice.

Managing director of Helgeland Oppdrettservice, Per Arne Grindskar, emphasizes the growth and development of Kvarøy Fiskeoppdrett, in addition to an increasing customer base, as the main reasons for the acquisition.

 – Our owners are expanding the production. At the same time, we receive many requests on towing, mooring, ROV services and freight assignments from other farms and privateers, says Grindskar adding:

– Moen Marin was an easy choice due to quality, price and fast delivery time. Now we have a modernized fleet that enables us to meet all requests from customers who are in need for a radiant and youthful crew that provides services of high quality.

Improved solutions

The working tool “Okstind” measures 15 x 10 meters and is a NabCat 15DD model. The popular Moen Marin vessel has been improved on several areas with a POD-solution that gives a better overview in the wheelhouse, a Mekon low-pressure disinfection system, as well as four comfortable cabins (three single cabins on the main deck, and one cabins with twin beds in the port hull).

Packed with special equipment

“Okstind” is packed with a wide range of special equipment. This includes engine room camera, a 30-ton winch from PMH, as well as chain lock system from MBH. The boat has been mounted with an extra console in the wheelhouse that controls the winch and chain lock system.

The boat has been given extra outlets for hydraulics on deck, recessed in the rail, which ensures that it is not in the way when not in used.

Quality in every detail

– We are very pleased with this exquisite badass, and hope that it will live up to the expectations. Moen Marin put a lot of effort into the details and we are constantly developing our boats to better cope with rough waters as well as difficult work operations, says Hans-Jørgen Eilertsen, sales manager Region North/West in Moen Marin.

Vettøy – A rugged «Norseman», custom-made for harsh conditions

The catamaran “Vettøy”, is the fourth Moen Marin boat to the service company Folden Akva.

The vessel is leased through our collaborating partner MOEN Ship Management (MSM). Last week, “Vettøy” was put into operation by the tenant Folden Akva. The company, based in Steigen in Nordland county, provides maritime services such as diving and ROV surveys along the northern coast of Norway.

Kristian Kristensen, CEO at Folden Akva, is very pleased with the final product, which will be used for tasks such as washing and changing of seine net, and as a substitute vessel during delousing.

– The aquaculture industry is growing fast, and to keep up with this development, we need to expand our fleet as well. When it came to our knowledge that this one was vacant, we made a quick decision to rent the boat, says Kristensen and adds:

– Our past experiences with Moen Marin have been great, and they are very professional in terms of aftermarket. It is easy to do business with them. Each boat has its own project leader responsible for the follow-up, which makes it is very practical for us as a customer

Smarter solutions

“Vettøy” measures 15 x 10 meters and is of the NabCat 1510 DD type. The model has been improved on several areas and comes now with POD solutions in the wheelhouse – for better overview, four cabins and a custom-made low-pressure disinfection system from Mekon.

– We are constantly developing our boats in line with market needs, as well as available technology and solutions. NabCat 1510 DD is one of our most popular catamaran models, and is tailor-made for small and large operations, according to project manager Sindre Mathisen in Moen Marin.

A perfect working tool for rough waters

“Vettøy” is a spacious and generously equipped boat. However, we have not made any restrictions in terms of speed and functionality. two 500-horsepower engines from Nogva, makes sure that “Vettøy” reaches a top speed of 11. Knots.

Despite its picturesque landscape with chalk-white beaches, azure-colored sea, charming villages, islets and inserts, the northern coast is known for its many rough waters. Perhaps some of the “secret” behind “Vettøys” seaworthy qualities can be ascribed to its two rotatable propellers from Nogva, as well as the gear systems from the same supplier.

The boat is also equipped with 2 x ST60-80 thrusters from PMH.

Standardized with two cranes

The model is also standardized with two Palfinger cranes, both with a range of 21 meters.

– A large crane capacity, spaciousness, modern solutions, and good living conditions are some of the main features that makes this a perfect vessel for Folden Akva, Kristensen concludes.

Moen Marin congratulates Folden Akva with their brand-new vessel, and hope that “Vettøy” offers the crew many salty and wonderful days at sea.

«Moen shipper» – an agile, powerful and safe working vessel

The aquaculture industry is always in great need of modern and seaworthy vessels. Recently, “Moen Shipper” was delivered from Moen Marin to MOWI Breeding.

The vessel is made by Moen Marin and leased through our financing partner Moen Ship Management. “Moen Shipper” is already fully operating by the tenant, MOWI Breeding (MB). The company is responsible for the production of stockfish in MOWI, the world’s biggest aquaculture company. Each day, MOWI produces top-class salmon for picky consumers world-wide.

This is our first delivery to MB, but far from the first time Moen Marin delivers to the giant of salmon farming.

 – We needed a new vessel and already knew that Moen Marin has a good reputation for producing quality boats. It was an easy choice to be honest, says Klaus Brandvik, assisting operations manager at MOWI Breeding.

The vessel is working on a site named “Rundklumpan” on the mid-western coast of Norway. “Moen Shipper” will be used for sorting stockfish, as well as various small jobs during the release of stockfish in May.

Spacious working deck for safe operations
The NabWork 1250 measures 12 x 5 meters and is a small, but agile service boat, tailor-made for everyday operations. Among the most noticeably improvements from the previous 1050-model, is the enlargement of the working deck – this improvement ensures safe operations as well as increased space in the engine compartment.

The vessel has also been mounted a reinforced Palfinger PK11001(M) C crane.

– The crew on board are very pleased with their new workplace. Not only are the boats very good, but the service and follow-up has been superb, Brandvik concludes.

Moen Marin hopes that “Moen Shipper” offers many salty and wonderful days on sea.

“Eir”- a badass boat made for harsh North Atlantic conditions

The Icelandic aquaculture industry is still in its molding phase. However, there are strong indications that Icelanders are re-writing the saga story. Moen Marin is proud to be a part of this adventure!

Icelanders have a will of steel. Since the Viking era, people on the island shaped by ice and fire have harvested from nature under extreme conditions. Perhaps it is this unique steadiness and ability to make anything out of thin air, that is the secret behind the Icelandic success.

At the same time, the Norwegian experiences on salmon farming has been essential. Norwegian marine competence also plays a key role in the business development on the volcanic island in the North Atlantic Sea.

These days, Moen Marin delivers a brand-new working vessel to the Icelandic aquaculture company Laxar. The company, which is mainly owned by the Norwegian salmon producer Måsøval Fiskeoppdrett, has several locations on the southern and eastern coast of Iceland.

The new boat named “Eir” will be used as a working vessel in Reyðarfjörður.

– In the coming years, we will increase our production from 6,000 tonnes up to 16,000 tonnes per year. Due to this, we also need to expand our fleet. Moen Marin have a good reputation and several Icelandic companies have been using Moen Marin as a supplier of boats, says production manager Gunnar Stein Gunnarsson from Laxar.

“Eir” is the name of a goddess in Norse mythology, and literally means “grace”, “tranquility” or “protection” – a suitable name for a vessel specially built for harsh North Atlantic conditions. All boats in the company are given a traditional female Norse name. This is meant as a tribute to the common cultural history between Norway and Iceland.

Improved model for harsh climatic conditions

In Moen Marin, we are constantly developing our models in terms of customer preferences, new requirements, as well as innovative, smart and sustainable solutions.

The NabCat 1475 Arctic measures 14 x 7.5 meters. The latest generation has been extended half a meter in the bow, which provides significantly improved buoyancy. The cylinders on the helm has been strengthened, ensuring the boat’s maneuverability on days that are extra challenging.

“Eir” is equipped with a powerful Palfinger PK33002, a fully rotating crane which has an increased range up to 21 meters. The new crane solution ensures functionality and provides better utilization of the working area.

For extra safety, the engine compartment is separated into two chambers. The boat comes with propeller protection, which is prohibited by Icelandic authorities.

High knowledge on the Icelandic market

– It is very rewarding to be part of the Icelandic adventure. In close dialogue with our customers and partners, we have built up a great deal of expertise on the Icelandic market. Moen Marin has the knowledge in terms of regulations and other specific conditions. All our vessels are built to withstand harsh climate conditions, and we strongly believe that “Eir” will live up to its expectations, says Viktor Finseth, sales manager in Moen Marin.

– Moen Marin means quality, and the people behind have a lot of knowledge regarding local requirements. In our business, time is money and it is beneficial that all boats are pre-certified and meet all the required standards. In that way, we can quickly put the vessel in operation. There is also a great distance between many of our locations, and with “Eir”, we can reduce the time spend between each one, Gunnarsson concludes.

Moen Marin congratulates Laxar with their brand-new vessel, and we strongly believe it will contribute writing new chapters in the Icelandic salmon saga.

For the fourth time, Moen Marin makes a delivery to the aquaculture company.

The salmon producer located on the coastal area of Namdal in Norway, is now expanding its fleet with a NabCat 1475 Arctic. The vessel named “Nora” will serve on a new location named Varholmen north of Brønnøysund.

Norwegian design – made for all waters

In all kinds of waters, you will find boats from Moen Marin. From the cold Icelandic fjords to the salty and warm Mediterranean. One of our last deliveries is Aqua Service – a powerful working tool located on the sunny Spanish shore.

Aqua Service is the name of a magnificent vessel, that we recently delivered to the multinational Aquaship-group. The 24-meter-long ship is all Norwegian design and is already in operation as a service vessel on the east coast of Spain.

“practical, rugged, and comfortable” – This is how Angus Johnson sums up the vessel that is specially adapted to Mediterranean conditions, but not without the recognizable Moen Marin-look.

– All boats from Moen Marin are products of high quality, and they are just as seaworthy in the North Atlantic as in the Mediterranean. At the same time, they are adapted to local conditions and the tasks to be performed.

Exceptional service and customer follow-up

Angus Johnson, who is one of the founders of the well-known Shetland based company Johnson Marine Ltd. The company has on several occasions used Moen Marin as a provider of vessels. In 2018, the company merged with Norwegian Gripship and rebranded the company as Aquaship. The new company are the only supplier in the world to own and operate vessels in all four segments of aqua services: Service vessels, harvest vessels, live fish carriers and feeding carriers.

Earlier experiences with the boat builder was decisive for the continuation of Moen Marin as a supplier of boats.

The best feedback we can get, are satisfied customers who return to us for more orders. -Previously, Johnson Marine Limited received two catamarans from Moen Marin. The company is exceptional in terms of service and finding the best solutions – both technical and financial. Predictability and fast delivery are equally good reasons to go for Moen Marin.

Spain – more than sun and beach life

Many people might associate Spain with holiday and beach life, sangria and flamenco. But the country also has rich traditions of seafood and a growing aquaculture industry. In addition, this contributes to significant synergies such as increased employment and a growing demand of aquaculture services.

Aqua Service works on contract for the Andromeda Group and operates on the coastal areas outside Valencia and Alicante. The vessel provides vital services in connection with fish farming of sea bass and sea bream.  This includes tasks such as delivering feed, harvesting, mooring and maintenance work.

Modern solutions and better work conditions

All boats constructed at Moen Marin are built to withstand harsh climatic conditions and rough waters, as well as safe operation and modern design. At the same time, we are committed to construct boats that safeguards good working conditions, comfort and functionality. This is stated by Geir Bjørvik Johansen, the project leader for Aqua Service.

Aqua Service comes with a long list of technical specifications, including two cranes. With the most powerful one being a 150 tonne/meter on the aft deck.

Moen Marin have installed chain lock system with hinges, and improved the wheelhouse with POD-solutions, which means that instruments are installed on flat tables instead of using consoles. This gives a neat and modern look and a more specious solution on the bridge. The interior has also been renewed with a fresh and tasteful look.

However, perhaps the most important installation is the air conditioning system (AC) which is installed on all six cabins. On less cooler days the temperature can be as high as 40 degrees Celsius. Without AC it would be very uncomfortable!

– So far, the feedback from the crew has been good and they emphasize the boat’s capacity and spacious conditions onboard. Moen Marin safeguards all our requirements, which is why Moen Marin stand out as a good choice, also for future deliveries, Johnson concludes.
